Time flies when your having fun. The weather has had some cool spells here in January - Florida seemed to have missed the cool and wet and today Florida is cool and we are just fine at 75 or so.
There are some special projects happening here at the park. I am working with friends building some new gardens - funding them through pancake breakfasts. Also getting 16 members of our bike club to do an Arbor Day 20 mile ride on Feb 9 in McAllen - for which each member will get a t-shirt and a tree - which fits into our garden project. Last year there were just 2 of us that went on this ride.
I have also went to more high school plays - "Chicago" done by Edinburg High School and "The Wizard of Oz" done by Edinburg North High School. High schools in Southern Texas have large theatres attached to their schools to promote the arts - and it seems to be paying off since their productions are very well done. We are going to another one this Sunday called "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way To the Forum" at Col. Rowe High School in McAllen.
Also I started a Movie Club - showing a movie a month. The first one was "It's a Wonderful Life" on Dec 28th - about 20 people came out - unbelieveably some of the audience had not seen the movie before? The January film was "The Story of Florence Nightingale" with 25 attendees and on Feb 8th I will show "Amazing Grace". Several years ago they would show movies regularly in the clubhouse but then learned that a license was required to show movies so that put an end to that entertainment. I advertise my movies as a movie club so a license is not required - it is like a book club.
We did take in a few movies ourselves in local theatres - Django Unchained with Jamie Fox and Leonaro DiCaprio, Parental Guidance with Billy Crystal and Bette Midler and the Hobbit in 3D.
One more memorable outing was the Mission Health Fair which took place on Sunday Jan 13 from 8 to 11 AM. Advertised was that the first 500 people would have a health screening through blood tests. So we got up by 6 AM and were in line by 6:50 and we received our wrist band and were already numbered in the late 300s. By 7 AM the first 500 had wrist bands. We had our test done about 10:30 and the announcer there said they had over 1500 at the Health Fair. Results aren't to us yet but we aren't worried.
I continue to go to Edinburg Women's Hospital for 4 hours a week to cuddle babies in the nursery. A few weeks ago I was in the neonatal unit holding a baby girl who was born in September - a little over a pound and now was a little over 5 pounds and would be going home finally. With that hospital bill - maybe a million dollar baby?
Next Tuesday, Jan 29th I take off to Arizona for a week to meet friends Barbara, Sally and Russell at friend Tom's house to enjoy Gourdfest in Casa Grande.

wow!! I know that you will be soooo upset that you are missing a great snowfall...at least 20 cms and perhaps more depending.Life perks along here in the same old venue...enjoyable though. We had planned to go to Toronto and stay with Mom but have postponed it a day....drat weather.
